They all posted the same social media content on the same day at the same time. Audiences following the hashtag ‘homeRepair’ saw one post (posted from hundreds of legit businesses) flooding the feed.

Embarrassing, isn’t it? Talk about wearing the same dress (as… a hundred and twenty-six others) to the party .

Net benefit to the legit businesses posting this content? Net Zero.

2. Your outsourced social media management service is mismanaging your social media.

Outsourcing your social media management to social media management services is a lot like littering on the side of the road – it ruins the landscape and like the mafia into concrete – disappears you within a sea of same.

Are you seeing what we’re seeing in the above feeds for the hashtag ‘homeRepair’. These are three distinct screenshots from one feed.

Is your industry guilty of this behavior? Is your business guilty of this behavior? Are you guilty of this behavior, yourself?

If you’re answering yes – you aren’t alone. Too many industries (I can think of dentistry and manufacturing to name just two) utilize social media management firms boasting ‘industry specific expertise’ to help businesses ‘stand out’ and ‘make an impression’ via consistent, insightful, and educational social media posts.

Does it look like these businesses are differentiating themselves from one another?

3. If you, a respectably professional operation, can’t manage your social media with skill, what else aren’t you doing well?

Yeah, we think it. Image matters. First impressions leave a lasting impression and you aren’t impressing us (in a positive way). Your marketing collateral reads as if it is written for your CEO and investors – you’re speaking to yourselves and when ‘you’re too busy’ to say anything at all – you outsource the creation of daily noise carrying absolutely no signal at all.

When we’re not outright ignoring you – we may be blocking and never thinking about you a second time. When you don’t speak to us personally we know you only want our money and if you can’t be bothered to take the time to invest in us – we aren’t going to invest in you.
