Virtual Production is a process heavy undertaking that generates some degree of heat. And heat slows down processing speeds while decreasing efficiencies.
iPhones running virtual production software run hot and require external MagSafe battery powered coolers for maintaining nominal operating temperatures during lengthy production days.
To facilitate mounting an external battery to power an iPhone cooler, I purchased the Ulanzi Lino Cage for mobile devices.
The build quality, versatility of the handles, and overall cage functionality is first-class.
However, the Ulanzi Lino Cage design interferes with placement of an iPhone cooler by placing a support strut directly over the space where a cooler would sit. This conflict cannot be resolved by orienting the phone differently within the cage.
After researching alternate cages, I made the judgement call that the Ulanzi Lino represented the best configuration and usability for my use case.
A modification was required to accommodate my desired outcome – so out came… the Dremel tool equipped with a metal-cutting circular blade.
The procedure was finished in five minutes. I first applied painter’s tape to guide precision. I put on my safety glasses, and I slowly carefully made my surgical cuts.
I’m happy to report structural integrity of the cage is not compromised by removing this strut and the external iPhone cooler now seats perfectly with the iPhone’s MagSafe connector.
